Scenes of Karachi Sea View Site

Scene -1

A week ago when I insisted a friend to come along with me and to have a visit by sea-view-side but he (because He was not She) was reluctant to go there, somehow he agreed to accompany. After a short while we were there, Karachi seaside the Arabian ocean. Sea a cheap recreational place to visit and wander. I asked the dude lets go to the seawater as I want to walk on the sea sand and soak my feet into sea water, my only desire coming here was to have a walk along side seashore, as I need relaxation and riddance from the stress and anxieties of life we accumulate in Karachi’s stressful environment every day. My friend was making a face to go to enter the salt water as horses wince the waters. I was pleading him brother what harms you to remove your shoes off and have a gentle walk along the seashore, I was confused why he is irritable and reluctant to walk down the seashore. I assured him don’t worry no one will take away our shoes or we can take our shoes with us just 15 minutes brisk walk then back to pavilion. Finally the camel came down the mountain.

Scene-2

There are beaches around the world with blue skies and blue seas, with swaying palms and pristine waters, well maintained and preserved from all kinds of the dirt and dust and they offer many luxuries to tourists, local community and public rush there in their holidays. Friends and Families, elders and kids together go and stay there and enjoy the exotic natural environment of beaches. Then there are we who go to the seas fully clad and  clothed, covered from elbows to ankles and still find ourselves besieged and blushed, victims of typical Pakistani morality. What an embarrassment!!!?

Scene -3

It really was an embarrassment and shame to see the sea. I have taken few snapshots and recorded clips to show you how worse is the situation of Karachi main sea view side with broken discolored benches and umbrella shades made few years ago, cracked and patched pavements and of all the littered sea area. You can see the scattered objects and rubbish on sandy area. Not to talk of foul odor. Someone say this is result of new construction alongside the sea view side, builder mafias, gutter lines gushing directly to sea waters and adding up free flow of factories chemical waste.

Who makes the sea dirty?

We….we drop the bags, empty cans and plastic bottles carelessly and leave rubbish scattered everywhere there.

Who leave this chemical waste to seawater?

We (factories and construction mafias)….we living in lush areas, driving in best luxury cars, working under cool office environment and when it comes to flush out….we have none better place other than sea.

Who is more negligent on this side?

We the government, local authorities, civic bodies accomplice with public to drop the garbage everywhere as this is their own land…… real estate owners, as they think all land is properties of their fathers so why not high rise and all bowl movement to seawater…..rest makes most the worst of all things are our industrialists the so called warrantors and guarantors of our country’s progress and prosperity. They have license to kill, killing human beings, species, plants, animals and fuck up the ecosystem of seas.

Drop Scene

My friend told me in last that this was the reason he was reluctant to go to seaside as he had already been there a month ago with his family and they returned home nauseated in the evening after visiting the sea.

The Problem of Kashmir

Kashmir remains a nuclear flashpoint…bilateral efforts have been failed for 70 years….international community intercedes forcefully and promote a peaceful solution the Kashmir dispute…so son so, on, writes the Munir Akram veteran columnist and an authority on foreign affairs in Sunday Dawn Newspaper.

My point is who will come and help to resolve this issue?

USA          Still number one country and most powerful when it comes to veto, decide, who to help against whom, who to make and who to break and who to mend is no more a friend of Pakistan and realistically it never been ever a friend to Pakistan . A country which lives by interests, so called national interest, it has only one principal what pleases America and what displeases it more, she sees who are on the side of pleasing America.

So America is tilted to India this time and India is flanked by America to enhance and establish its political, economic and strategic interests to its neighbors and generally in South Asia and stand upright in front of rising China.

Will it come to resolve Kashmir Problem??

Russia            The country is not so powerful the way America is, but still it blockades, hurdles, and stops America from doing what Russia wants to undo, Russia is dragging cleverly USA to old cold war again rhetorically and by poking the Europe with close ties with America and is big player in middle eastern war theatre, has good relationships with Arab countries. Russia also has geo-political interests in Arab world, oily, wealthy and rich gulf region is windfall to Russia as well as they are for USA. Pakistan has played against Russia in Afghan war and recently the ice is melting between two countries, but the shrewd and cunning Putin administration is far away to back Kashmir issue in favor of Kashmiris or Pakistan.

So who will come to solve this old issue?

China        The philosophical, contemplative and launch fierce offensive against enemies when needed otherwise go steady like turtle has been the strategy of Ancient China. China is pretty clever and is on the way of founding and establishing its economic, political and strategic relations in South Asian region and making its presence peacefully in European orbit and try to avoid confrontational fight with USA and others. China thinks it wise that more you are economically sound more you would be able to defend and safeguard your interest in the field of geo-politics and at battle ground too. Though we have a cliché about China being ‘time-tested friend’ of Pakistan and in recent times it has invested billions of dollars in CPEC –led development projects and is heading to other south Asian countries with purpose of drawing them near to china periphery, boosting their emerging economies and consolidating its own position in the region. China like other countries is well aware of  Pakistan’s two parallel government setups, one a political setup and other one of establishment and both the parallel setups have always been at odds with each other in key foreign affair matters, as the establishment in the days of Musharraf was far away from the Kashmir issue and had put it in the cold storage, but the present establishment  seems to be pro-Kashmir, so once the Pakistan has the same value and importance regarding Kashmir issue by all state institutions, less possible  China would come and  play a role in Kashmir issue. China would support Pakistan somehow diplomatically but would never be the part of conflagration anytime.

So the Kashmir imbroglio needs a deep study and clear strategy based on ground realities.

{{…….Shikarpur and Smita Patil…….}}

I don’t remember what was the year, may be 1984 or 1985, but a journey by train from Radhan Station to Shikarpur (Sindh) was very strange and eerie, a lengthy travelling undeniably, lengthy tracks, railway crossings, signals and brief stops at every station and the noises of hawkers, finally Shikarpur.
Days were of chilly winter, Shikarpur being near to Quetta was all cold and frosty in the morning, freezing weather. The place was a nursing quarter of Tara Chand Hospital, a beautiful edifice itself where my cousin was a staff nurse, 4 roomed quarter house was a place of accommodation for all partners from other towns of Sindh. They were studying and working there. Two gentle guys were like our official guides wherever we like to go, visit, buy things and take a round to station in the evening, they were our best companions.

Those were the days of VCR, big black cassettes and a TV set. Taking all these things on rent was a great luxury and romance to enjoy the Hindi movies in those days. One day those friends arranged a TV and VCR to watch movies and it was there I watched “Shakti” a Hindi movie starring Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachan and Smita Patil, we often used to pronounce her name like Sameeta Patail, what a naive of spelling names by reading filmy posters in Urdu.

I don’t remember exactly whether I had seen Smita Patil’s other pictures before or later to that movie. I can remember the ‘Aaj Rapat Gayu To Humey Na Bhulayo’ ‘Hum Ne Sanam Ko Khat’ ‘Dikhae Diye Yu’ and other memorable songs picturized on her.

What an age it was, every heroine was my heroine, a dream world of lover and fantasy of infatuated adolescent. I being a romantic soul was in love with her as well. Her acting, her songs, her attractive saucy looks and glances were all to romanticize the bygone heroine.

Today when I read ‘Star power’ a review on a book on Smita Patil by Maumun Adil in Sunday dawn newspaper it brought me back to the memories of past, Shikarpur…..railway tracks….Smita Patil and love for her like I have had for every heroine 🙂

“Not a Hollywood but Syria. .!”

How miserable are the streets of Syria,

In our part of the world we pronounce it SHAM,

Means evening, “Sham e Ghariban” the evening of desolation,

It’s not a cinema hall,

Not a scene of Hollywood war or horror movie,

Not the sound waves of dolby stereo,

Which strikes at your ears,

But Syria can provide you all,

The real scenes. …..!

Real scenes of horror and war,

Real scenes of noisy, panicky ambulance’s siren,

Honking horns of taxis at borders to cross,

Yells and wails of depressed and departed souls,

A sequence of scenes……distinct narrative,

So these are not the scenes of Hollywood horror movie……but the real scenes of Syria,

Streets of desolation…. corpses and haunting nightmares,

Scenes of crumbling walls….broken window glasses,

Pools of blood and pieces of flesh in every corner….streets of Syria….!

You want to eat, no foods,

You want to drink, no water,

You want to weep, no tears,

How distant they are….?

The words of “Humanitarian assistance and aid”

Refugees crisis…..truce and civil war,

We are here to help Syria – Russia

We are here to protect Syrians – America

True and false,

Game of true and false,

They are the contractors of big companies,

Industries of weaponry,

The best and loyal contractors. …so loyal like a faithful dog,

Contractors for gun lobbyists,

Contractors – license to kill,

Killing reptiles, crawling, climbers and all insects of all kinds,

Then contracts of dumping bodies,

Destroying buildings,

Damaging roads and devastating POPULATIONS. …!

Our Best and Loyal Contractors…..Russia and America. ….!

They don’t take a penny to protect and help you !

Love and Hate Story of MQM and Establishment

The term ‘Establishment’ is used for military and law enforcement agencies in Pakistan. Intellectuals, analysts, politicians and media men uses this term for Pakistan military or army but another word ‘boys’ is also in common use for army in Pakistani media.
The military establishment of Pakistan has always been a powerful and very disciplined institute throughout. The mighty establishment only experienced a powerful resistance during MRD movement led by PPP and pro-nationalists groups against General Zia-ul-haq.

Some analysts and ex-intelligence servicemen say the mighty godfather general Zia-ul-haq was behind the making of his godchild Altaf Hussain to counter MRD and Jeay Sindh Tahreek in Sindh.

But things never remain same for all the time so after the demise of general Zia-ul-haq, Altaf Hussain got some freedom and established his own kind of establishment consisting intelligence and militant wings, sectors, units and the recruiters like zimedaran who were made to operate under a command and control of different committees responsible to one single entity Altaf Bhai.

This herculean godchild was always in giggles holding snakes in his hands for his opponents and enemies. He crushed any of the head who arose to challenge his monstrous world but gradually he become oblivion and went on forgetting that he was dipped into the river of establishment by general Zia-ul-haq holding him from heel, fateful one, the Achilles’ heel.

It is said after getting their job done this brainchild of general zia-ul-haq was abandoned by establishment and he was picked up and adopted by international godfathers offering him lollypop of ‘promised land’, “Jinnah Pur’ or Mohajir province”

International godfathers have their own agendas and plans for south Asia, especially and specifically for India and Pakistan.

This international establishment needs kings and Queens, knights and bishops, rooks and pawns for their playing field and master plan.

People say the author of ‘Philosophy of love’ once saw a dream of becoming a father of nation of muslim migrants from India to Pakistan. So for this aim he chose to become a pawn for his international masters for a loath of land promising his name to be among fathers of nation.

So far this author has been succeeded in getting a name plaque:

‘Altaf Hussain University’ in Hyderabad Sindh.

NOW this has become a story of past perfect tense that who supports who and what is what in case of MQM.

The half and full blown operation against the militant wing of MQM was no more a wishful thinking of establishment but a need of time to call the MQM to account.

In the recent years MQM was in worst of its crisis and every other day was an uphill task for its party workers to defend their supremo’s words and verdicts hurled through media.

This was first time in the history of MQM that party’s loyals felt compelled to say:

“We want destination not the leader”

Seems after the bulk of apologies by Mr. Hussain it was difficult for  establishment to decide which apology of Altaf Hussain should let be gone.

Finally the company ditched him after the many years of service.

“Refugees’ return”

An opinion by @omarwaraich in Sunday Dawn newspaper on plight of Afghan refugees their woes and atrocities done by Pakistani police on refugees is a truest to the facts story of current situation.
I have been living in the vicinity near to afghan refugees and was part of research study on Afghans living in outskirts camps in Karachi the topmost and loudest cry they made along with many adversities of life was a harassment of Police, their cruel attitude and inhuman conduct towards afghans.

As an ex-employee of a hospital i know afghans were not treated on equal terms in Pakistani hospitals they were not entitled to patients welfare services because they do not have Pakistani ID. I know many cases personally, they were left to die miserable deaths.

Being here for almost 40 years, their one generation know nothing about Afghanistan, born here, raised here, grown here somehow educated here, they feel more Pakistani than afghani themselves.

Pakistan being a signatory to international laws must abide the laws and protect the honor, respect and property of afghans on its land as it is obliged to comply with its promise.

Omar Waraich’s column is must read on Afghan refugees plight.

”Trauma of Independence”

May be for later generations who were born after 1947, celebrating “Independence Day” on both sides of border is a day of joy and jubilation and that must be….!!

But what about those who wrote, “Train to Pakistan” “Toba Tek Singh” “The weary generations” not to mention many who suffered the wounds of partition and left describable and indescribable scars of those traumatic vulnerabilities in history, a bloody history. ..!?

The 14th and 15th August are still suffocating days for al those innocent and vulnerable souls who went through lot of suffering and experienced the atrocities of partition and became traumatised til their last breath.

What this Independence gave people of that time??

Bloody riots, massacres, homelessness, murders, rapes and shattered families, mass migration and refugee camps and haunting  nightmares.?

Millions of people who became strangers in their native land within a one night ???

Those poor souls suffered the long-lasting traumas of Independence which snatched their Independence 69 years ago….

Happy Independence Day…!!
